If you are like most of our guests, you will agree that possibly the most exciting part of your voyage occurs while the yacht is actually sailing from one destination to the next. Once under sail, it is an indescribable feeling when the tonnage of such a large ship begins to move as it gains momentum and starts gliding along powered only by the wind.  In terms of jet travel or space travel, it’s really not all that fast, but it can feel very fast to your senses.  The excitement and sensation beckons us back to a time when ships and locomotives were the fastest form of transportation available.

 

Delmar is sleeker and faster than the average Turkish gulet and she is rigged for sailing!  With up to 5 huge sails filled with the wind, it doesn’t take long to cruise to the next paradise, and without the noise and smell of a droning motor.  While sailing, you are invited to sit back and relax on the aft deck cushions or if you like, you can participate and learn to sail.  Ask the Captain and he may even let you take a turn at the wheel!

 

Sailors have long told stories, sang songs and written poems about sailing, the sea, and the feeling of freedom they experienced when out on the water. That kind of feeling won’t happen on a cruise ship and perhaps not even on one of today’s “plastic boats”.  The true feeling of sailing is only obtained on a classic wooden sailing ship!  The size of the yacht, the look, feel and sounds of wood and the large and numerous sails all add to the sensation of what it would have been like to travel on a ship many centuries ago.

 

The Mediterranean and Aegean Seas are a perfect playground for sailing gulets such as Delmar. The seas are calm with very little swells and during the spring, summer and fall seasons, the winds are generally mild and predictable.  The breezes for sailing don’t usually last the whole day through which gives good reason to spend part of each day tucked into protected coves or harbors for swimming, shopping, hiking and dining.

 

For those who might be a little apprehensive about being out on the water for too long, rest assured, you will find Delmar to be very comfortable and spacious.  Even when moored, many of our guests tend to be completely satisfied with lounging and dining on deck rather than going ashore for excursions.  The choice is yours, however, and there are many fun and interesting attractions to explore each day on shore as well. The varied ports, coves and marinas where you will be staying offer a large variety of activities for all ages and all interests.
